The Power of Women in Winemaking: Ruth Fernández of Punctum

Today, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. On this special occasion, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible achievements of our winemaker, Ruth Fernández. Ruth is a true trailblazer and a true testament to the power of women in the world of winemaking.

Ruth is a born and bred winemaker, driven by a passion for the craft that is evident in every bottle of wine she creates. As the youngest of her siblings, she shared the same ambition as her brother and sister to start a winery on their family’s land. After graduating from the Autonomous University of Madrid with a degree in Viticulture and Oenology, Ruth knew she had more to learn. She set out to France to gain practical experience in the southern region of Languedoc. Her determination to succeed was evident from the start, and her passion for viticulture led her to expand her horizons with several courses in organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Her commitment to the highest standards of organic and biodynamic farming, as well as her devotion to capturing the true essence of ancient Spanish viticulture, has earned her numerous accolades and recognition in the industry. In 2010, she was awarded the Youngest Winemaker Award by the Sommelier Federation in Spain.

At Punctum, Ruth’s work is guided by the belief that wine should be a reflection of the land and its people. She believes in nurturing the vines and grapes to produce the best possible expression of terroir. Her biodynamic approach to winemaking involves working with the natural rhythms and cycles of the earth, paying close attention to the plants, soil, and weather conditions. By doing so, she ensures that each bottle of wine is a true representation of the land it came from and the people who tended to it.

As we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we want to take a moment to acknowledge Ruth’s hard work and achievements. Her dedication to winemaking and her commitment to the environment make her a true inspiration to women and girls around the world. By pursuing her passion and following her dreams, Ruth has shown that women have a vital role to play in shaping the future of winemaking and the world at large.

As we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we want to thank Ruth for her contributions and encourage women everywhere to pursue their passions and follow their dreams, just like she did.
